Coffee, Train Rides, and RUM TASTING!

So if you all can't tell, my family and I love playing tourist around our island. It's a lot of fun to experience everything our visitors get to, but at Kama'aina rates (discounted prices). So this weekend daddy went out fishing on the boat so grandma and I decided to take Sophia to Kilohana.
Kaua'i Sweet Shoppe
First we stopped by Kaua'i Sweet Shoppe it's a cute tiny hole in the wall type of place with lots of sweets. Everything from candies to coffee and everything in between. They have these Oreo brownies that are TO DIE FOR! It is the most dense amazingly delicious brownies I have ever tasted in my life! I am quite the brownie coinsure! I have my sister-in-law bring some home every few days! It is the best thing with some hazelnut coffee! If you're ever passing through or in town please stop by and see her (Stephy) and get some delicious Brownies and coffee!!!

Here is little Miss in heaven with all the Salt Water Taffy!!! Maui Made!

Kilohana Train Rides
After fueling up on coffee and sweets we headed over to the train station...
**FYI Kama'aina, it's $10 for adults and $6 for children (3-12) on Sunday's I strongly encourage all Kama'aina to take advantage of all that is offered to us! You get to learn about the history of the 'Aina you inhabit! **
here is bunny all settled in her seat on the train

here she is with her ticket ready to board the train!

giving her ticket to the tour guide

she was a little nervous-you can tell she looks pretty tense here. lol

While on the train we got to see the fruit orchard they have. Mostly everything at Kilohana is fresh farm to table. Its a beautiful farm with many varieties of fruits and local plants. I would recommend this trip to anyone, visitor and local. It's an educating tour, I learned a lot of the history and about my cultures, since a lot of Portuguese worked at the sugar mills ;)
You also get to stop off and feed animals! Here are a few photos:

Koloa Rum Tasting
Now I really wanted to do the FREE rum tasting at Koloa Rum on Sunday when we went to Kilohana but Keiki aren't allowed in the tasting room and I didn't want to go in alone so I patiently waited till Tuesday when I could take my sister-in-law with me. It was a lot of fun. I got really excited because a good friend of mine was hosting the session we went to, her name is Jabrielle! She is such a blast, loud, fun local girl ;)
She had us make our own little tiny Mai Tai's

We got to try 4 different kinds of rum. The Dark rum, Light rum, Spiced rum, and Coconut rum.
I am a huge Malibu drinker! I love Malibu and coke with a hint of lime! But after tasting this coconut rum I am definitely buying Koloa Rum! It's distilled twice to remove impurities and make you feel better the next day ;) You'll get all that info when you do your tasting! It's a lot of fun and really delicious. Now because I am a weak sauce I left feeling very happy and a little dizzy! Haha! But all of that rum definitely tasted like high school! LOL! It tasted like late night bonfires drinking Bacardi or any type of alcohol we could get our hands on! HAHA!

loot at that beautiful happy smile!!! Seriously, go visit her you won't regret it! She's very memorable!

This was overall such a wonderful experience at Kilohana all together! The only thing I didn't like was that it ended and you can only attend the rum tasting once a day! Haha!

If anyone does this or has done this comment your experience below! I love hearing from ya'll!

Much love and Aloha,

XObre

Playing Tourist

Sunday morning we sat around asking each other "What should we do today?" "What is there to do?" "I really don't want to spend a lot of money" So I googled it! You'd be amazed what google can do for your day ;) One thing really stood out to the caffeine-deprived animal inside of me.... FREE COFFEE TASTING at Kaua'i Coffee!!! Like need I say more? FREE. COFFEE! Now it's called coffee "tasting" but really you could just keep filling up that tiny cup until your eyes are so wide they take up half of your face! Haha! They also have a little café on their balcony with lots of drinks and a few food items. It was such a beautiful view from the balcony... Can you believe I was born and raised here and NEVER been down to Kaua's Coffee?!
On our way home from Kaua'i Coffee we stopped by Lawai International Center. It was such an amazing experience, my mother in law was raised Buddhist so it was nice to be with her in a surrounding that was familiar with her. And to meet such a wonderful woman, Lynn Muramoto, who runs the center and you can tell she is just so dedicated tot what she does and her love for that place radiates when she is speaking to you.
After a very satisfying nap (for me), we packed up dinner and headed down to Nawiliwili Pier to have dinner and catch some fish. It's become more of a weekly thing. It's nice we stay until sunset and then we head home and rush Sophia into the shower before she falls asleep, she usually falls asleep in the shower. haha!

Here are a few photos of our fun filled day!

I thought this was hilarious! (I'm easily amused)

Here we are coffee tasting... The cups are small but you can sure get a buzz off the 20 different kinds of coffee they have out!

these were a few of my faves.. I forgot to take a pic of the banana nut one that I LOVED!

this pic was taken by hubby, he and his brother call each other "bradda" LOL

Obviouslyyyyyy....... we left her unattended ;)
(Chill out, it's water!)

These are the different kinds of roasts. I must say I really like the Peaberry. It is double in caffeine but also acidity. TWO coffee beans are found in a peaberry.
They also have a list of the activity report

Where's Sophia?!

Peek-a-boo!!!!!

She was actually being photogenic!

She gave me "Falers" <3

Here are a few pictures on our walk through the coffee fields:

Papa and Sophia fighting over a stick. LOL

She was running away from aunty Rosie

Not really sure how she should act...

"Yep... Nope! I'm outta here!" LOL

Daddy and Sophie by the tractor

I love this picture so incredibly much!

And this one too!

She's officially had enough... This was seriously just a foot away from the exit and she could not walk any longer. NAP TIME!!!

 Lawai International Center:

Feeding the goats :)

love this view, didn't feel like I was in Hawaii- felt like Japan. HAHA

You can actually walk all the way up this cliff!
And we did, this is only like halfway up!

The view was magnificent!
This is the eye of Sheba

The blue ball is the tear of Sheba. That tree literally grows these blue "fruits". and when they dry they turn into the brown ones there. People use them to make jewelry. It's beautiful.

Now I don't know exactly what she ws saying to the dog but I can imagine it was something like "No, this is MY water!" hahaha!

 Nawiliwili Harbor:

Okay don't judge me! It was a mover and shaker! Haha. BTW I caught this!

Soph's looking at me like "What are you doing mom? Why are you holding that stinky thing?"

This was daddy's catch... obvi Mommy's one was bigger ;) WHOOO!

Here is Sophia reeling in her own fish with Papa

And here is Sophia with her fish, she caught the baby one :)
I hope you enjoyed our pictures and I hope that you all go to check out the coffee tasting at Kauai Coffee and go see Lawai International, and at anytime go pack up dinner and a few fishing poles and head out to Nawiliwili Harbor!
XO!
